Prince of India restaurant in Faversham under new ownership

A popular restaurant is set to remain open after being snapped up by a man with big dreams.

Jack Miah has taken over the Prince of India in Preston Street, Faversham, which last week was feared to be closing after Raj Abedin revealed he was selling up.

But Mr Miah, who has been manager at the eatery for 16 years, says it won't shut for a single day as he vows to make a success of the business.

Mr Abedin sold the outlet amid tough financial times, but his successor says he will do “whatever it takes” to fulfil his “dream” of successfully running the restaurant.

“Owning a restauarant has always been an ambition and a passion of mine,” Mr Miah explained.

“I’ve been here for 16 years and I have always wanted to own it, so I jumped at the chance when I got it.

“There are difficult times all over the UK, but I am confident that we will overcome them somehow.

“In my eyes, if you aim for that goal and work for it you can make it, regardless of what stands in your way.”

Indian restaurants across the country are said to be struggling, with the prospect of raising prices for their customers, amid spiralling energy and ingredient costs.

However, Mr Miah, 36, says he believes the loyalty from his customers – many of whom he knows personally after so many years in the job – will serve him well.

“I have been commuting from Essex every day, and we have so many regular customers that come who are now friends to me,” he added.

“I am lucky that people have called me to ask what is happening with the restaurant; I effectively have my own clientele base and regular customers. I know deep down they will continue to support me as they have been supporting me already.”
