Faversham boss Phil Miles preparing to make big changes over the summer

Phil Miles insists he and co-manager Danny Chapman won’t shy from making large-scale changes at Faversham Town this summer.

Defeats to Horsham and Ramsgate made for a disappointing Easter weekend for the Lilywhites, who have now won just once in their last eight league outings.

However, confirmation of Bostik South East safety has now allowed the management duo to switch their focus towards the 2019/2020 campaign.

“There will be big changes made over the summer, Danny and I are happy to do that and have no problem doing that,” said Miles. “We did sit down with the chairman a couple of weeks ago to outline our plans, he’s happy with that.

“Now we know we’ve got safety in this division we’ll sit down again to confirm a few things.

“What’s happened in the last six games has stemmed from the Sittingbourne defeat I think, we haven’t been the same since then or since we lost Ben Chapman.”

Reflecting on the Easter weekend, Miles added: “We could have easily been down by four or five at half-time against Horsham, it looked like an end of season game.

“Monday (against Ramsgate) was disappointing, we didn’t look like we fancied it as a team.

“We started well and in the first 15 minutes I thought they were a team we know we can play. We were disappointed with the first goal we conceded. We thought the three goals we conceded on Monday could have been avoided quite easily, there were mistakes by us.

“The second half was a bit better, we dug in a bit better but I think we got what we deserved. Horsham could have been a lot worse without goalkeeper Will Godmon. They were two disappointing games.

“We had a chat with the players afterwards, a couple of the backroom staff were there as well. I won’t go into detail but things were said on both sides, Danny and I know it can’t carry on.”

Faversham are still waiting on the Football Association to find out if there will be charges on the back of the brawl at the end of February’s win over Hythe.

Miles said: “We still don’t know what’s happening from the fracas with Hythe, we’ve not heard anything from the FA regarding suspensions, charges or punishment.

“We lost Ben Chapman (who returned to Gillingham from his loan spell) thinking we would lose him to suspension anyway, that hasn’t helped with our position, we’d have liked him to have played the rest of the season.

“We don’t understand why the FA are dragging their heels on that. You learn a lot about yourself and your players.”

Faversham finish their Bostik South East campaign at East Grinstead on Saturday.
