Faversham Town chairman Gary Smart gives 2024/25 Southern Counties East League Premier Division champions Las Vegas trip

Faversham Town chairman Gary Smart has remained true to his word of giving his title-winning players a summer trip.

The Lilywhites have been rewarded for being crowned 2024/25 Southern Counties East League Premier Division champions with a few days away in Las Vegas.

It was something Smart vowed to do if the side won the league or the FA Vase - and it wasn’t something his players were going to let him forget.

Smart said: “I did say at the start of the season, even for the 2023/24 season to be honest - so it’s sort of carried over - that if the boys win either the Vase or the title, I would take them to Vegas, which they kept reminding me!

“They knew they were on course for it and I think the Larkfield & New Hythe win cemented it in a way with our goal difference.

“So, I started to book it up and now we’re going in mid-June for four nights in Vegas.”

It originally appeared some of Faversham’s part-time players may not be able to attend the trip due to other commitments.

But Smart revealed the bulk of the squad will make the trip after all.

The club were presented with the league trophy on Easter Monday after they thrashed relegated Lordswood 6-0 at home on a memorable day for Smart.

“We had our Bank Holiday Monday presentation,” he said. “That was one of our best days we’ve had.

“We had 1,000 supporters there, we got the trophy, the sun was out, and we won 6-0. It was just an amazing day.

“A few players initially couldn’t make Vegas because of their other commitments. One had a family holiday but miraculously, after that lovely day on Easter Monday, they managed to change all their plans!

"I think there’s only two players now that cannot make it.

“One is having a baby so you can’t really knock that but most of the players are going.

"It’s a well-deserved trip.”

Meanwhile, Steve Holness has been named as Faversham’s new commercial manager while Tom Mullender has been appointed the club’s new youth lead development coach.

Mullender will work with all age-groups from under-7s through to under-18s, helping coaches deliver a consistent approach to player development.

On Mullender’s new position, head of youth development Phil Miles said: “We want our youth set-up to be one of the best in non-league football.

“Tom brings years of footballing experience in the youth game and we’re pleased to welcome him on board.”
