Faversham have completed their first two summer signings - including one Town fans will have less fond memories of from a previous meeting.
Harrison Pont joined big striker Eniye Amgbaduba in being announced as new arrivals for Tommy Warrilow’s Isthmian South East newcomers over the weekend.
A versatile midfielder, former Gillingham youth-team player Pont memorably saved a penalty from Gillingham icon Adebayo Akinfenwa on his Lilywhites home debut as Pont filled in, in goal during Sittingbourne’s 1-0 Swale derby win at Salters Lane in March 2023.
Pont started the 2024/25 season with promotion-winning Isthmian Premier side Dover before he ended the campaign at Ashford.
“It’s a club with big ambitions so I’m very excited to be here,” Pont told the club's media team on joining Faversham.
On his memories of his cameo Sittingbourne keeping stint, he said: “Two years ago - in the season where, unfortunately, you got relegated - I saved a penalty against Akinfenwa.
“I’d come off the bench (after then-No.1 Harley Earle got injured with no substitute goalkeeper on the bench) but that’s history now.
“That’s happened and I’m here to get us promoted.”
Amgbaduba, meanwhile, also started the 2024/25 season at Crabble alongside his brother, defender Tamas Amgbaduba.
He also previously had played for Fisher and Whitstable before he helped Jake Leberl’s side earn an immediate National League South return.
Amgbaduba was introduced as a stoppage-time substitute for scorer Ruben Soares-Junior in Dover’s 2-0 Isthmian Premier play-off final win at Dartford last month.
“It’s been a hectic few weeks but it’s good to get it over the line,” he said.
“To come to a club that has big ambitions, a club I’ve played against in the past, that feels good.”
On what attributes he will bring, 6ft 6in Amgbaduba said: “I like to bully defenders, win my aerial battles, hold the ball up and bring players into play.
“But more importantly, I want to score goals, getting into the box as soon as possible.
“I feel like I’m an old-school No.9, really.
“Put the ball there and I’ll be there, causing havoc.”
Pont and Amgbaduba will help fill the void left by midfielder Sam Hasler and forward Danny Parish, who have departed from their 2024/25 Southern Counties East League Premier Division title-winning squad.
Hasler has rejoined Ashford while Parish is back at Sittingbourne after a dual-registration stint away from Woodstock.
