Faversham have named a new goalkeeping coach.
Adam Porter, formerly of Tunbridge Wells and Holmesdale, joins Tommy Warrilow’s Town backroom staff ahead of their Isthmian South East return. He replaces the experienced Terry Sedge.
“They are hard positions to fill,” said Lilywhites manager Warrilow.
“I had conversations with Adam and I know a few people that know him. He seems like a nice geezer.
“It’s that old saying ‘Work hard, play hard’. We want to be professional in everything we do but enjoy it, as well.
"Once the games are finished, it’s then about trying to improve yourself and getting ready for the next game.
“Adam’s character fits perfectly with what we’re doing, he’ll fill the void that Tel left.
“He’s away at the moment but he will be back soon.
“Hopefully, it’s the start of a successful period for him in his career, as well.”
Warrilow had previously worked with Sedge at Tonbridge, Thamesmead Town and Ashford before the pair reunited as the former took charge at Salters Lane in January 2024.
Sedge worked closely with No.2 Lewis Briggs and first-choice goalkeeper Jacob Russell, whose impressive tally of shut-outs helped Town to the Southern Counties East League Premier Division title.
Warrilow said: “That’s the best possible way for Tel to go out - as champions.
“Last year, it was a real shame to go out in the play-offs on a Tuesday night. This year, we wanted to go one better. Key to that was the clean sheets.
“Hopefully, we’re in for another successful year.”
Town’s players returned to training following their trip to Las Vegas - organised by chairman Gary Smart - last weekend, ahead of their pre-season schedule.
“They’ve just come back from their trip,” said Warrilow. “They had a good blow-out on Saturday - like I’m sure a lot of teams did.
“But pre-season is changing now where games come thick and fast. I believe there were even some friendlies on Saturday!
“The whole point of keeping the majority of the squad is, even though we have still brought a couple of lads in, the majority of the lads were already here.
“This week, we will do a little bit on shape. I’m looking forward to getting a game in and seeing where we are.
“It’s just a case of getting them match-fit because they’re all fit lads.”
First up for the Lilywhites is this Saturday’s visit of newly-promoted National League South side Dover for a club sponsors day where those potentially interested in supporting the club can enjoy food and drink ahead of the game and discover more on how they can back Faversham.
The visit of Dover will also see Warrilow come up against Whites striker George Nikaj, who enjoyed a successful loan at Ashford in 2022 under Warrilow.
On Jake Leberl’s team, Warrilow, whose side host a Bromley XI on Tuesday night, noted: “They have gone up.
“We have got three of the four teams in the Isthmian Premier play-offs to play in pre-season.
“We have got Dover coming to us on Saturday, we’re going to Billericay on a Tuesday night and we’ve got Dartford coming to us.
“But the majority of our lads have played at the level we’re going into. There’s that bit of extra quality you’re facing.
“All the games are going to be a test. We’re playing Punjab at their place on July 19, as well, and we know that’s going to be an absolute battle.
“The last home game against Greenwich Borough, we have made that a 1.30pm kick-off to make it a bit of a club day and a chance to sort of reflect on pre-season afterwards.
“This is a tough pre-season - but that’s what you want.
"You want that as a player and you want that as a club, it’s nice these teams want to play us.
“Some teams didn’t play us last summer, I guess that’s partially because we were a Southern Counties East team.
“I’m pleased in the home games we have got in Dover, Folkestone - everyone knows what’s going on down there - Dartford and Bromley, and Greenwich Borough. They’re just coming up afresh.
“For the home games, we really want to show the kind of crowds we can get there.
“I know it was Brentford, but we lost 10-0 to them at Tonbridge and we’d gone up that year.
“So no matter the results - whether we win by loads or lose by loads - I’ll be level-headed.”
