Faversham Town manager Ray Turner says Ryman League play-off points and League Cup Final win would be a dream walk

Ray Turner couldn’t hide his delight as Faversham wrestled their promotion destiny back into their own hands at the start of what could be ‘a week that dreams are made of.’

Town breezed past Hastings 3-0 on Saturday to ensure they stay fourth in Ryman League, Division 1 South, three points ahead of United in the play-off race, with all the leading contenders now having five games remaining.

Turner admitted: “Saturday was a strange game. It was a lot more comfortable than anyone suspected against a team that are very much a rival. It was convincing and one-sided.

“The play-offs are back in our hands but we can’t write Hastings off yet. It’s only three points and our goal difference is not good. The sides below us are slowly eroding away, though.”

Town head to Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday (3pm) in the first of what boss Turner calls four dangerous games against sides seemingly with nothing to play for.

He said victory on Saturday and then beating Premier Division Kingstonian in the Ryman League Cup final at Carshalton on Wednesday night would be a dream week for the club.

Turner said: “We have got five games left. The last is against (third-placed) Hythe and we’d like to have a play-off place sewn-up before that game. I’d take fifth place now if I could.

“The four before then are all against sides who on paper don’t have a lot to play for anymore - Tooting, Walton Casuals, Sittingbourne (rearranged for April 12) and East Grinstead. They all have individuals capable of causing problems and are all going to be dangerous.

“We go in with confidence, though. We have won four on the bounce and conceded one goal.”

Turner admitted Wednesday night’s final was a ‘bonus game’ for the players.

He said: “We have got ourselves where we want to be in the league and that remains our priority, but it’s still a cup final and it’s a chance to test ourselves against a team who are in the fight for the play-offs in the Premier Division.

“It’s a chance to win something and go into the history books. The club have never won anything at this level before.

“It’s a big week. Three points at Tooting and winning a trophy is the stuff dreams are made of.”

Josh Stanford and Kieran Campbell (cup-tied) will miss the Kingstonian tie while Renford Tenyue (calf) and Luke Harvey (hamstring) will be assessed before Saturday with Jack Sellens likely to keep his place in the squad before signing dual terms with Canterbury City.
