Faversham Town boss Tommy Warrilow praises forward Eniye Amgbaduba after two-goal performance in 2-1 Isthmian South East weekend win against Hastings United

Forward Eniye Amgbaduba has been praised by Faversham manager Tommy Warrilow.

Amgbaduba, brother of Sheppey defender Tamas Amgbaduba, bagged both of the Lilywhites’ goals in last weekend’s 2-1 Isthmian South East win at Hastings.

His efforts at The Pilot Field were his first league goals of this campaign. His previous five goals had all come in the FA Cup run to the third qualifying round.

The 6ft 6in player is naturally a threat in the air but he’s much more than just that, according to Warrilow.

“He’s a big lad - but his personality matches it,” he said.

“His booking on Saturday was really harsh. He doesn’t get a lot of change (out of referees).

"I didn’t realise until someone told me afterwards that those were his first two league goals of the season.

“Obviously, you want your centre-forward scoring goals - which he has been - they just hadn’t been goals in the league! He was on five for the FA Cup.

“I’m really pleased for the big man. He deserves it.

“He does do the ugly side but he’s a good footballer, as well. He’s not playing just to head the ball.

“His overall contribution since he came in over the summer, not just his goals, has been really positive.”

At Hastings, Amgbaduba latched onto newly-signed midfielder James Dyer’s attempted shot to put Faversham into a 12th-minute lead before he headed home a cross from playmaker Nathan Wood shortly after the hour in front of an 826-strong attendance.

The hosts pulled one back in the 83rd minute but the visitors held on in tough weather conditions.

Warrilow reflected: “In the last 10 or 15 minutes, they threw everything at us.

“We sort of gifted them one and, as happens in all levels of football, we went into panic mode a little bit.

“I thought we deserved the win overall but we did have to do the ugly side of the game in the last 10 or 15 minutes.”

It was a second victory for Faversham at Hastings, having won an FA Cup replay 3-0 against them last month after a dramatic 2-2 draw at Salters Lane in the original tie.

But Warrilow won’t be getting carried away.

He said: “Football can change over a couple of games, especially this early.

"A couple of wins can catapult you up and vice-versa with a couple of defeats.

“Hastings are a different animal compared to last year.

"They’re a young side with a bit of experience in there. It’s a difficult place to go.

“We’re hoping to get back into the swing of things regarding league matches.

“The season seems to have gone on forever - but we have only played eight league games!

“The most important thing is we’re unbeaten. We want to keep that going for as long as possible.

“It wasn’t the best performance on Saturday, we know that, but it’s another three points.”

Dyer, 22, has already made a real impact at Salters Lane since his recent arrival from Welling.

Warrilow said: “He went to Welling and it didn’t work out there for him for whatever reason.

“We had tried to get him in during the summer. He brings energy, a good work-ethic and has got a nice left foot on him.

"We took him off on Saturday because two starts in four days was a bit much for him.

“He can add a bit more balance to the side, being a left-footed player. But we have got Ethan Smith, Harrison Pont, Tommie Fagg and Matt Newman, as well as him.

“They’re all fighting for a shirt in central midfield because they’re all quality players.”

Next up is a home game against early strugglers Beckenham, 4-0 weekend winners over East Grinstead, before Tuesday’s derby at Margate.

“Beckenham got a great result on Saturday,” said Warrilow. "That’s why you cannot look at the table too much at this stage of the season.

“Del (Oldfield), their manager, is a good guy. If you think that game is going to be any different to Margate away on Tuesday, you will get massively unstuck.

“But if we do our jobs well, we’ll be fine.”

Goalkeeper Archie Burford and wideman Michael Ademiluyi have left.

Johan Caney-Bryan scored as the Lilywhites lost 2-1 at home to Sevenoaks in the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday.
