Kent Police launches search after Lyminge churches targeted by vandals

A search has been launched for two people following a window-smashing spree at two churches.

Police received reports of a burglary taking place between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, January 6, at Lyminge Parish Church of St Mary and St Ethelburga in Church Road, near Folkestone.

During the incident, items including wardens’ staffs and bottles of alter wine were taken, but later found nearby.

A fire extinguisher was let off inside a room and five windows were also broken.

Between 4pm and about 6.10pm that day, three windows and 11 panels of lead-lined glass were damaged at Lyminge Methodist Church in Church Road.

The front door was also vandalised, while plant pots, bins and water butts had been tipped over within the grounds.

Police believe the two incidents are linked. They have issued images of two people they would like to identify as they may be able to assist in the investigation.

Officers have asked anyone with information regarding either of the reports, or if they recognise the two people in the images, to call them on 01843 222289, quoting reference number 46/3907/19 for Lyminge Parish Church or 46/3929/19 for Lyminge Methodist Church.
