Armed police arrest man in Folkestone following shooting

Armed officers swooped on Folkestone earlier today following a shooting.

A man is now in custody following the incident, which happened close to Morrisons superstore, in Cheriton Road.

Officers were called to the scene at 10.30am after reports a man was carrying a weapon.

Shots were reportedly fired and a car was damaged, with 'two indents' left in its bodywork.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital suffering with shock.

Armed officers launched a search for the suspect and a man was located in Taylor Road, a mile away.

Three weapons were seized.

A spokesman for the force said: "Kent Police was called to Cheriton Road, where a man was reported to have been in possession of a weapon and caused damage to a passing car.

"The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution suffering from shock.

"A man matching the description of the suspect was located in Taylor Road by armed officers and arrested.

"A BB gun and two knives were seized during his arrest.

"The 38-year-old from Folkestone remains in police custody whilst inquiries regarding the circumstances of the incident continue."
