A PERSON was taken to hospital today following a chemical spillage at Shorncliffe in Folkestone.

Emergency crews in protective suits rushed to the area after the alarm was raised shortly before noon. Five fire engines, from Folkestone, Dover and Ashford, attended along with an ambulance and a specialist chemical unit.

The immediate area was evacuated and access restricted in surrounding roads.

The spillage was at the waste disposal area within the Hillside Industrial Estate.
