Car crashes into tree in Cherry Garden Avenue in Folkestone after police chase

A car has crashed into a tree after being chased by police - leaving the driver with serious injuries.

Officers had requested a black Honda Civic to stop at 1.08am today in Shorncliffe Road, Folkestone.

The vehicle was briefly pursued before it left the road in Cherry Garden Avenue and collided with a tree.

The one person who was in the car was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

But he has been transferred to a London hospital.

The county council's highways team said the A2034 Cherry Garden Avenue was expected to remain closed until about 9am and warned motorists to expect delays in the area.

Heavy rain and snow has made driving conditions difficult on the county's roads overnight, resulting in widespread chaos this morning.

Flood alerts have also been issued for some areas.

Elsewhere, drivers are facing delays because of a jackknifed lorry which has closed part of the M20 in both directions.

Officers are investigating the Cherry Garden Avenue incident and urge anyone with any information, including residential CCTV or dashcam footage of the car in the area, to call them on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference RY/MD/108/20.
