Two men tasered and 10 arrested for drug offences in New Street, Folkestone

Armed police tasered two men in the early hours due to their "threatening behaviour" while responding to reports of a disturbance.

In total, 10 people have been arrested following the fracas in Folkestone, understood to be drug related.

This includes two men who were found on the roof of a property in New Street, near Bradstone Road.

Police descended on the area at 1am following reports of a disturbance.

Witnesses reported seeing around 10 police cars in the street and officers with tasers.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also called to assist police, as was the National Police Air Service helicopter.

It is understood that while two men climbed to the roof of a house, others fled the area.

Some of the suspects were seen carrying weapons and due to their "threatening behaviour" police say they were forced to discharge a taser on two men.

One was taken to hospital for a precautionary check.

During the dramatic incident, neighbours were told to remain in their homes.

One witness, who heard someone shouting at 1am, said: "We saw a couple of people being tasered.

"We also heard that people were running on the roof. I think there was something up there."

Another witness compared the night time seize to sounding 'like World War Three'.

The 10 detained men, aged between 24 and 50, were all arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

They all remain in custody.

The investigation has continued throughout the day - with police and forensics stationed outside a home in New Street.

Now, police have revealed that a cannabis cultivation has been located at the address the suspects targeted.

The full police statement reads: "Ten people have been arrested by Kent Police following a disturbance in the Bradstone Road area of Folkestone at around 1am on Thursday, November 28.

"Officers attended the scene and detained the men, aged between 24 and 50, on suspicion of drug offences.

"They all remain in custody as enquiries continue.

"Among those arrested are two men seen on the roof a property.

"Due to some of the suspects being seen with weapons, armed officers provided assistance to patrols.

"Due to threatening behaviour, it was necessary to discharge a taser on two men and one was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary check.

"A cannabis cultivation has been located at the address the suspects are reported to have targeted and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing."
