Eurotunnel services from Folkestone return after overhead electricity fault

Motorists using the Eurotunnel between Folkestone and France faced delays because of a fault in overhead wires this morning (Sunday).

Tailbacks were caused by "overrunning, unplanned tunnel maintenance" which closed one of the two tunnels and led to services being temporarily suspended.

Eurotunnel says engineers have now corrected a fault with the overhead power supply and extra trains are being provided.

But there are still delays at the UK terminal. At one stage drivers had wait up to a four hours.

A spokesman said: "The tunnel incident is now resolved and we are back to running one shuttle per hour in both directions."

Bank holiday weekend drivers heading for the continent have also been reminded that they need to print out a completed certificate of international travel. Travellers need to comply with three different regulations.

Mobility rules set out the permitted reasons for entering France and health control measures insist of negative Covid tests before and on arrival, the absence of symptoms, and not having been in contact with a confirmed case.

The usual rules governing the right to stay still apply. All foreign travellers must present a valid passport at the border as well as the usually required documents. In the case of a short stay less than 90 days there must be proof of resources and accommodation.
