Channel Rotary Folkestone raises more than £7,000 for Pilgrims Hospices

Rotary members raised thousands for Pilgrims Hospices after choosing the charity as its lead cause for the year.

Since January, Channel Rotary Folkestone has hosted a variety of fun-filled events which have raised more than £7,000 for the hospice.

Half of all funds raised from the club’s events are donated directly to Pilgrims Hospices – which runs three sites, in Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet.

A charity golf day, which was described as the “biggest event of the year”, generated over £4,000 alone.

Additional donations have also been raised through cycle rides, quiz nights, wine tasting evenings and adventure golf days.

Gary Calver, Channel Rotary president, said: “We have long recognised the fantastic work of the Pilgrims Hospices and are very pleased to have chosen them as our lead charity.”

Rachel Fagg, from Pilgrims, expressed her gratitude to the Folkestone-based club.

“On behalf of everyone at Pilgrims Hospices, I’d like to say a huge thank you for choosing to raise vital funds and awareness.

“Your incredible fundraising ensures our families continue to receive care, compassion and dignity during challenging times.”

Pilgrims Hospices is east Kent’s largest hospice charity, supporting people facing incurable illness to live well in every moment.

With a team of more than 200 nurses and therapists, the charity provides individualised care to thousands of people each year.

The fundraising news comes as the centre in Ashford was rated outstanding for the second time.

After receiving the highest possible overall rating back in 2015, inspectors reaffirmed the accolade following a successful visit from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in May.

In addition to supporting Pilgrims Hospices as their lead charity, Channel Rotary Folkestone continues to help dozens of local causes - from schools and youth projects to organisations supporting the elderly, carers and homeless.
