Rugby player dies after match

A 48-year-old man collapsed and died after playing a game of rugby in Folkestone.

Joe Edwards, who had been a member of the town's rugby club for many years, is not thought to have sustained injuries during the match on Sunday.

It is believed he had a pre-existing condition which led to his death. A post mortem is being held to establish why he died.

Andy Dagger, chairman of the Folkestone Rugby Club, said Mr Edwards had played a game, gone to the changing rooms, changed his boots and then collapsed when he came back outside.

Mr Dagger said other players and club supporters were "shocked and upset". He added: "Joe was a fantastic bloke. He will be missed."
