Sex play in schools under fire

A CONTROVERSIAL play about a teenage love triangle is on tour to 26 schools throughout Kent.

B@bytalk describes how a vulnerable teenager becomes pregnant after a one-night-stand with a 22-year-old man.

The show is being performed by the Channel Theatre Company. The Folkestone-based company insists the play aims to make young people more aware of teenage pregnancy. But campaigners have warned there is a danger the play could promote promiscuity and abortion unless it is handled in a balanced way.

Paul Doran, of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, said: "We support young people being informed about sex, but we believe the unborn child should not be left out of the debate."

A spokesman for the Channel Theatre Company, said: "B@bytalk was researched with the help of 60 young people from the target age group who were asked to give their views on sex education and teenage relationships.

"Students worked with professional actors to develop characters and situations which were then incorporated into a script for performance."
