Delays at Channel Tunnel after suspicious vehicle in French terminal

Travellers reported delays of up to five hours at the Channel Tunnel after a suspicious package was discovered at its Calais terminal.

Holidaymakers complained of a lack of information as they were forced to wait at the Folkestone terminal last night.

All Eurotunnel services were suspended for just over an hour while a "suspect vehicle" was investigated.

Eurotunnel is warning passengers to expect delays of up to two hours this morning.

Many people took to social media to voice their anger.

Katherine Hibberd tweeted: "Over 4 hours on my calculation, [sic] should of been 00.54, now on the 06.20, make that a delay of over 5 hours, which with a toddler is an absolute nightmare."

She added: "How does a 1 hour suspension equate to a 5 hour delay for customers?"

Chris Gill tweeted: "Someone on the ground must know what’s happening - lack of info is what pees people off more."

Adrienne M Bonwick tweeted [sic]: "the staff are lovely (and taking some stick from others). it would be good for them to be able to pass on some information rather than ‘we just don’t know’. communication is key."

Kent Police said it was informed at 8.08pm last night that Eurotunnel had been temporarily closed due to a suspicious package found on the Calais side.

The tunnel was reopened at around 10pm after it was deemed safe to do so.
