Folkestone Trawler Race returns this weekend

Things are about to get fishy in Folkestone today with the town's annual trawler race.

The event draws in huge crowds every year to the Harbour and The Stade known for its offerings of cockles and whelks.

An estimated 10,000 people are thought to have visited during last year's festivities.

The boats and crews often take part in fancy dress, and are judged in categories including winning boat, best dressed boat and best dressed crew.

The race is due to start at 12pm, followed by music and activities all afternoon in the Harbour.

More events are also planned for tomorrow, with the raft race tomorrow at 12pm where crews paddled their way furiously across the harbour tomorrow.

This will be followed by the town's annual Fish Pie Competition, which creates fun local rivalries every year.
