Driver Adrian Leu jailed after performing U-turn on approach to M20 Channel Tunnel

A driver who performed a ‘U’ turn on the M20 approach to the Channel Tunnel has been jailed for a year.

Romanian Adrian Leu did the dangerous manoeuvre, clipping a lorry, before travelling the wrong way down the slip way and into oncoming traffic.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how it was seen by two police officers who were in a vehicle exiting the M20.

Prosecutor Dominic Connolly told how the officers attempted to stop Leu’s vehicle, which then sped along the M20 hard shoulder at approximately 50mph.

The 43-year-old then completed the U-turn across all three busy lanes, forcing at least two vehicles to brake hard and come to a standstill.

Mr Connolly said the officers then chased and stopped Leu before arresting him on June 12 at 4.24 pm.

Judge Catherine Brown jailed Leu for a year after he admitted dangerous driving and banned him from the road for 27 months.

Defence lawyer Kerry Waitt told the court it was only Leu’s second time driving in the UK – but now he will have to take an extended test before driving in the UK again.
