A violent thug sank his teeth into a police officer and threatened to "bend her up" as he was being arrested over a domestic incident.

Isaac Chapman – who is already serving a 20-month prison sentence for another assault – lashed out at PS Ash Loosemore while being put in handcuffs in October last year.

The 30-year-old became aggressive after being detained for a search and bit the officer on the arm during the struggle in Folkestone.

Chapman, formerly of the Maidstone area but now of no fixed address, admitted assaulting an emergency worker when he appeared before magistrates in Folkestone via video link from prison.

Neil Sweeney, prosecuting, told the court: “Officers in Folkestone had to search Chapman as he was under arrest after a domestic incident.

“As he was under arrest, he said to the officer, ‘I’ll bend you up’. He wouldn’t comply, was physically aggressive and then bit the officer on the arm.

“She had a fleece on and suffered reddening to her arm.”

PS Loosemore later said in a victim impact statement that if she had not been wearing two fleeces, the injury would have been far more serious.

She also described biting as “disgusting” and said such behaviour should not be tolerated.

The court was told during the June 18 hearing that Chapman has a history of violence.

In mitigation, defence solicitor Nigel Numas said: “He’s a serving prisoner and is released in January next year, so perhaps you could give him a short custodial sentence.”

The court also heard Chapman did not have the best start in life.

Mr Numas added: “His dad was jailed for life and his mum got 10 years, and he was in care. From there he’s been to prison.”

Mr Numas added that Chapman suffers from ADHD, and has long-standing issues with drugs and alcohol.

“He did take crack cocaine, but that’s been substituted for drink, but he had begun attending Alcoholics Anonymous,” he said.

Chapman is also blind in one eye and short-sighted in the other, which, his lawyer said, affects his ability to work.

Magistrates told Chapman it was not very nice to bite someone and told him the officer was just doing her job at the time he was assaulted.

Chapman was sentenced to 28 days in prison, but the term will run concurrently with his current sentence. He was also ordered to pay PC Loosemore £50 in compensation.

The court was not told whether Chapman faced any further charges in relation to the domestic incident he was arrested over.
