Fundraiser set up for former Hawkinge mum battling cancer

A fundraiser has been set up for an "amazing mother" who is battling terminal cancer aged just 38.

Laura Harris, who lived in Hawkinge for several years, received the tragic diagnosis just under a month ago.

Now living in Flintshire, Wales, the single mother of three is currently in hospital with complications of primary bowel and secondary liver cancer.

Her close friend Leah Jones said: "Last week was really touch and go, but she has been doing better in the last few days.

"We found out about the diagnosis a short while after she did, and a group of us decided that we wanted to do something.

"Our children are in the same year at school and I have to say that Laura is a wonderful mother, and an absolutely amazing person.

"We want to make happy memories for her and her children, while we still can."

"She's been there for everyone, and now we want to be there for her"

While living in Kent, Ms Harris worked as criminal defence solicitor across the county, mostly working for Martyn Hewett Solicitors in Shepherdswell, near Dover , and later for Haskells & Co in Ashford .

The fundraising campaign is hoping to give her a holiday alongside her children Sophia, 8, and twins Joshua and Izzie, 3.

Mrs Jones said: "Laura is always there to help anybody in need.

"She goes to a twins group with some of the other mums, and the messages and comments I've had say that she's an absolute inspiration to them.

"She's been there for everyone, and now we want to be there for her.

"We're going to try and get her a holiday somewhere, like a retreat, Sophia had asked if she could go on holiday with her mum one last time.

"We want it to be something fun for them, but also relaxing for her so she can get some rest."

As well as the fundraiser, which has raised almost £8,000 with 350 supports, the team are also hosting a raffle later tonight.

Mrs Jones said: "As well as all of the fantastic donations on the fundraiser, we've also had over 150 prizes donated from businesses.

"Everyone has been touched by Laura's story and it's been a wonderful thing to see."
