A young businessman has secured a new food hygiene rating at his town-centre burger van following a previous bad inspection.
Smash Burger in Bouverie Place, Folkestone, received a zero after a visit in March and was shut down for a week.
A lack of hot water, dedicated hand wash basins and dirt were among the problems raised.
But the site has now been given a four-star score following a reinspection by Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC).
The owner, John - who did not wish to give his last name - previously told KentOnline how he had sorted out the issues at his business.
“The reason why I got zero was the water basins, and I know I was wrong,” he said.
He also shared how times have been tough at his first solo business venture.
“To be honest, it’s been a lot harder than I thought,” he said.
“In February, it was so down. I was literally losing money every day because the rent is really expensive.
“It's £1,000 a month, and I've got food costs as well, plus rent. I couldn't even pay myself a salary.”
Now, he has been handed a new rating after inspectors confirmed the mobile kitchen was up to scratch at a revisit on June 4.
He said: “I just followed what the inspector said after they shut it down in March, and I have been holding the same standard since then.
“I’m really confident that the hygiene is good in my mobile unit.”
The takeaway has glowing reviews on Facebook, with one customer saying hers was “one of the best burgers she’s ever had”.
