Folkestone Invicta boss Andy Drury targets 11 wins from their 15 remaining Isthmian Premier matches this season in play-off push as he reflects on 3-0 win against Horsham

Manager Andy Drury has outlined how many more victories he believes Folkestone need in order to get to finish in this season’s Isthmian Premier play-off positions.

Ninth-placed Invicta secured an impressive 3-0 home triumph over a Horsham team that had been on an eight-match winning streak last weekend to move within nine points of the Hornets, who are fifth.

“We have got another 15 games left,” said Drury.

“If we want to make the play-offs, we’ll probably need to win about 11 of them.

“If we had lost on Saturday, it would have been 15 points. That probably would have been too much to make up but, now, it’s nine.

“We know we still need to get on a run - but it’s doable and we have only lost one in seven.

“That’s a decent run. But we need to keep going and get in and around it.

“If we get close, some teams might be looking over their shoulders and getting nervous whereas I’m sure we will be all right because we have got plenty of experience.”

Striker Ade Yusuff’s early penalty gave Folkestone a dream start before midfielder Jack Jebb doubled the lead in the first half.

Another forward, Dan Smith, added an injury-time third.

Drury, who played midfielder Amadou Kassarate at centre-back, reflected: “Horsham had won their last eight games so we knew it was going to be tough.

“But to be fair to the players, every single one of them was first class. It was a really good win.

“They’re always going to have a lot more possession than we were because of how they play. But it probably played against them a little bit on our pitch where we played more in the thirds.

"The most important thing was how we played in both boxes.

“We had our chances - and took them - and then defended really well.”

While a 2-1 home success against Dulwich in November had left Drury purring, he admitted their display in the victory over Horsham wasn’t far behind.

He said: “It was up there.

“I thought, against Dulwich, we were really good and we were never in too much trouble.

“Saturday was definitely one of our better performances.

“Whether it was up there with Dulwich, I’m not too sure, but it was definitely not far off it because we needed that result on Saturday.”

One-time Arsenal youngster Jebb’s goal put Invicta firmly in control but Drury revealed: “That was his first of the season.

"Ideally, you want him getting anywhere between five and eight. It was a great strike.

“Jebby did well - but everyone did well on Saturday.

“Luke Allen has come in and offered us a different dimension, Ade has done brilliantly up top and Joe Turner came off the bench and did really well.

“Everywhere you look, we have got men that can do it in those positions.”

The match also saw youth-team midfielder Lucas Dent come off the substitutes’ bench for his league bow.

“It was nice to get him on the pitch,” said Drury. “It’s good for the Academy. There’s a few players there that we’re keeping an eye on.

“He came down with us to Whitehawk - and it was 0-0 until the last minute (losing 1-0 in November) - so it was a bit hard to get him on. It was a really scrappy game.

“So, it was nice to be in a winning position on Saturday and to get into a position where we could bring him on.”

With Yusuff and Smith above him in the pecking order, forward Tom Derry has left and signed for Isthmian South East Margate.

Drury explained: “Tom is a good player at this level - but in Ade and Smithy, we feel we have got two of the best strikers in this league.

“I felt, even if Tom got an opportunity, he wouldn’t have been in good enough shape, really, to take it.

“We’re looking to progress the club. With Ade and Smithy as No.9s, there’s not many better than them around.

"But Tom has been great for us, he’s a really good lad. It was just a move that suited both parties.

"We wish him well.”

Next up for Invicta is a trip to struggling Hendon, who have been in awful form and only halted a nine-game losing run with last weekend's 3-3 draw at Wingate & Finchley, on Saturday.

But Drury is eager to warn against complacency after their 2-2 draw at fellow relegation-threatened team Bowers & Pitsea earlier in January.

“When we played at Bowers, it showed any team can have moments,” said Drury. “Those moments can kill you in these games.

“Bowers had two moments against us - and scored twice. That can happen again on Saturday if we’re not up for it.

“But if we’re on it, we know we’re more than a match for most teams at this level.”
