Pre-season round-up: Fans back in grounds, Margate win Thanet Cup, Zak Ansah, Paul Vines and Alex Akrofi among the goals

Supporters were back in grounds at the weekend as clubs at step 3 level and below were allowed to open their gates – albeit with limited capacity.

Twenty Folkestone Invicta fans were among the sell-out crowd of 200 at The Pilot Field for their game at Hastings.

Clubs at step 4 are only allowed crowds of up to 200 until the start of September.

Neil Cugley’s men made the trip worthwhile for their loyal band of followers, with Ian Draycott scoring the only goal of the game.

Margate retained the Thanet Cup with a 3-2 win over neighbours Ramsgate at Hartsdown Park.

In an eventful start, Tom Chapman gave Ramsgate a first-minute lead before Conor Evans tapped home an equaliser just two minutes later.

Evans added his second after the break and Reece Prestedge made it 3-1 with 15 minutes left before Ashley Miller scored late on for the visitors.

The Belmont saw a crowd of over 150 for Whitstable’s home clash with Cray Wanderers.

Ollie Rowe scored the only goal of the game after 20 minutes.

There was more goal action just down the road at Winch’s Field as Herne Bay came from behind to defeat Sporting Club Thamesmead 4-3.

Zak Ansah scored twice with Kieron Campbell and Tushaun-Tyreese Walters also on target for Bay.

Sevenoaks Town ran out 6-0 winners at home to Welling Town, Erith Town also hit six – in a 6-2 win at Phoenix Sports – and that familiar pre-season goalscorer – Trialist – was on target to hand Kennington an 89th-minute winner at Deal.

Paul Vines found the target for his new club, VCD Athletic, in their 3-0 victory at Lordswood. Malachi Hudson and Daryl Mills were also on the scoresheet.

The Swale derby was settled by just one goal, Sheppey taking the honours against Sittingbourne at Woodstock Park.

Tonbridge’s trip to Lewes was still played behind closed doors, however, Alex Akrofi scoring twice with Joe Turner and Tom Beere also on target in a 4-1 victory.
