Darren Smith has returned to Folkestone Invicta less than a year after leaving the club to join Leatherhead.

Just three weeks ago, Smith captained the Tanners to play-off glory at Folkestone’s expense but he’ll be pulling on the Invicta shirt again next season.

The experienced midfielder spoke with Invicta boss Neil Cugley after the play-off final at the Fullicks Stadium and things developed from there.

Cugley said: "He rang me back and said he wanted to come back, that he’d made a mistake and he wished he was still at Folkestone. I said 'no problem'.

"Leatherhead train in Dartford and he works in Bromley, so it seemed ideal for him. But sometimes things are not quite as good as you think they’re going to be.

"I’m just pleased we’ve got Darren back. He’s not young but he’s a fit lad and likes the club. He can play in various positions across midfield.

"It suits him to come back now and he’s coming back for the right reasons."
