Man arrested in connection with Gravesend Clock Tower damage

Officers have made an arrest after an iconic clock tower was vandalised.

Earlier this morning a 24-year-old man from Northfleet was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage to Gravesend Clock Tower.

He remains in custody as inquiries continue.

Between October 26 and 27, the glass lamps at the bottom of the spire were smashed.

There was disappointment when it was announced the tower wouldn't be illuminated for Remembrance Day commemorations or Diwali celebrations due to the damage.

However, the lights were repaired at the last minute and it was lit up for both events.
