When they arrived they found a Citroen Picasso parked on the roadside was alight.

The incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, took 40 minutes to clear.

It is believed to have started when the owner of the vehicle tried to start it on his way to work.

A member of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "We think it originated in the engine compartment.

"Once it was clear we helped the owner to clear the car of their possessions."

No one was injured in the incident.
