Nearly £250,000 is being spent on sprucing up the outside of Gravesham’s Civic Centre

Nearly £250,000 is being spent on sprucing up the outside of Gravesham’s Civic Centre.

The work is set to begin at the end of the month and last until October.

The council set aside £250,000 based on initial estimates, and six contractors were invited to tender. Only one, Concrete Repairs, came in with a quote under budget, at £243,734. UK Gunite quoted £331,778 and Bondcote quoted £460,874.

The work will include repairs to concrete cladding panels and replacing all the mastic seals between the panels and window and door frames.

Chemicals to stop corrosion need to be applied to all exposed concrete surfaces, and the timber windows and doors need redecorating.

There will be scaffolding up for the works, and there will be noise as the concrete is removed and replaced. The contractor will also be offered the opportunity to work at weekends.
