Services that ran between the north Kent station and London Victoria were terminated and restarted at Dartford .

Meanwhile other routes between Charing Cross and Gravesend via Sidcup were also scrapped and restarted at Northfleet.

Network rail engineers were sent to the site to investigate the issue which has since been resolved.

An update posted to Southeastern's Twitter page read: "The signalling problem at Gravesend has been rectified and trains are now able to run through the station.

"Delays and cancellations may continue while we work to return the service to normal."
