Driver of overturned van on the A2 near Ebbsfleet 'left before speaking to officers'

The driver of a crashed vehicle which caused severe delays along a busy stretch of road reportedly fled the scene.

A white van overturned on the A2 coastbound near Bean at about 2.45pm yesterday causing nearly eight miles of tailbacks.

Police spokesperson Scarlet Drayson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver of the vehicle, who reportedly left before speaking to officers."

The crash lead to more than 90 minutes of delays with congestion stretching back to the M25.

The road was reduced to three lanes while the vehicle was recovered and all lanes reopened by about 7pm yesterday.
