A man who crushed a three-year-old boy to death in his car when he wouldn't stop crying and the child's mum received £258,000 in legal aid.
Stephen Waterson, 26, was jailed for seven years and six months for manslaughter last month for killing Alfie Lamb in February last year.
Alfie's mother Adiran Hoare, a former Northfleet School for Girls pupil, who has lived in Gravesend and Chatham, was earlier jailed for two years and nine months for child cruelty.
The pair received more than quarter of a million pounds of taxpayers' money to pay for legal aid.
Hoare, 24, received £110,630.79, while Waterson, an adopted son of former Conservative minister Nigel Waterson, received £148,312.20, according to The Sun.
Alfie's nan, Janis Templeton-Hoare, told the paper it was "disgusting".
She said: “I can’t believe it. He should be made to pay a percentage of the money back.”
Waterson repeatedly lied to police in an attempt to avoid prosecution, was earlier been found guilty of intimidating a witness, having previously admitted conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
He denied manslaughter by criminal act in a first trial when a jury was unable to reach a verdict, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence on the first day of his retrial.
The tot died in hospital three days after suffering catastrophic brain damage when Waterson crushed him in the footwell of his Audi last year.
Hoare was convicted of child cruelty, but cleared of manslaughter.
