Ebbsfleet are understood to be close to signing former Southend United defender Johnny Herd.

He has been on trial throughout the summer for the Fleet after his release by Southend at the end of last season.

His release from Roots Hall ends a three year stint at Southend and he revealed on twitter on Wednesday that he was set to sign for Liam Daish’s (pictured) Fleet.

He said: "To everyone that asked, hopefully signing for ebbsfleet tomorrow."
