A member of Thames-side Fire Station confirmed the incident to be a false alarm.

"We were called to reports of an explosion but did not find anything," he explained.

He said it was unclear who exactly put in the 999 call but the resident's home they were called to had said it was not them.

One resident is reported to have said there was ongoing gas works in the area.
