Gas bottle which exploded in a garage in Range Road, Gravesend, shook people's homes

People living in the Denton area of Gravesend heard a huge explosion late last night with some people saying it shook their homes.

The explosion could be heard in several streets at about 11.20pm and police and fire crews were called to the scene.

It is understood a large gas canister, like ones used to fuel barbecues, had exploded in someone's garage in Range Road.

One woman who didn't want to be named, said she was at least eight police cars and ambulance crews rush to the scene but it is understood no one was injured as a result of the explosion.

People who heard and felt the explosion rushed out into the street to see what had caused it as police cordoned off part of the road as firefighters dealt with the incident.

One man who didn't want to be named, said: "It shook my house. It was really really loud. Im just glad no one was home."

Kirsty Gearey, spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, added: "Crews were called at 11.21pm to reports of a gas bottle explosion and the collapse of a domestic garage.

"One fire engine attended to assess the structure and make the scene safe prior to the arrival of structural engineers from the council.”
