Gravesham’s Riverside Festival 2020 cancelled

This year's Gravesham's Riverside Festival, which was due to take place on July 4, has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

The event, which attracts thousands of people to Gravesend each year, was due to have been headlined by Peter Andre, with many looking forward to seeing him perform live in Gravesham free of charge.

Peter, who is married to trainee doctor Emily, has since agreed to headline next year’s festival at the Riverside leisure area on July 3, 2021.

Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, Gravesham council’s cabinet member for community and leisure said: “We are all really disappointed that we have had to cancel our flagship event this year due to this awful virus, but the safety of our residents and staff is our priority.

"A lot of work goes in to planning community events and the team has been working on the Riverside Festival 2020 since last year. Unfortunately it is not meant to be. We hope that next year will be a celebration of our community and the Riverside Festival 2021 will be bigger and better than ever.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to once again say thank you to our community for staying home and following the government guidelines as well as our amazing key workers who have been putting themselves at risk for all of us.

“We can’t wait to see you at our events once the pandemic is over and we are safe to hold large gatherings again.”

The announcement follows news that the Rochester Castle Concerts have also been cancelled due to coronavirus.
