A dog was almost mauled to death by another after a "horrific" attack while out on a walk.

Diana Dunbar, who cares for her daughter's dog, Mog, while she is at work, was taking the working cocker spaniel out in Shorne.

The 83-year-old said: "It was like a lion attacking their prey.

"I was probably 100 yards up the field and I heard this dog bark. It came over the top of the gate and went like a bullet up toward us. The dog ran towards me and rolled me over on the ground.

"I was screaming and was hysterical.

"The dog was shaking him by the throat and I could not help. This little dog was screaming. Its breath was getting shorter and shorter like a dying animal.

"If the owner had not come the dog would have been dead. It was out of control."

Diana was walking Mog in her friend's private field in Bowesden Lane, Shorne on December 27 when the "uncontrolled" dog jumped the locked gate.

She added: "It was the most horrific experience. I was screaming 'it is killing my dog, it is killing my dog'.

"The attack was completely unprovoked, we were just minding our own business. I cannot believe he is alive."

Mog, a two-year-old working cocker spaniel, was hospitalised overnight after the attack and put in anti-inflammatory medication. He is currently on the road to recovery.

During the incident, Diana of Chilton Drive, Higham was knocked over by the larger dog and sustained significant bruising to her leg leaving her unable to put her boots on.

The mother stopped walking her pets there after a similar incident in June last year with the same suspect.

She said: "I go there because it is a safe place. Last year we were in that same field when this dog came bursting through the main gates. I screamed and was hysterical watching this dog attack.

"After, the owner of the field extended the fence upwards but I said I am never bringing the dog here. It is not safe. They recently said that it was secure again so I started coming back."

Kent Police was called at 10.16am on Monday, December 27 to a report that a dog had attacked another dog on Bowesden Lane, Shorne.
