Gravesend cafe takes comic turn alongside Bill Bailey in Idris Elba comedy

It's starred in crime dramas Killing Eve and The Interceptor - now Nell's Cafe near Gravesend is set to take a comic turn in Idris Elba's Sky comedy In The Long Run.

Stars from the series, including Bill Bailey and Jimmy Akingbola, were filming on Thursday, March 7, at the cafe, just off the A2 at Marling Cross.

Set in the 1980s, the show centres around Idris’s character Walter Easmon, based on the actor’s own father, and his family’s life in south London.

The series also stars Mr Bailey as Walter’s best mate Bagpipes and Kellie Shirley as his partner Kirsty.

Filming at the cafe meant it had to close for the afternoon.

Extra publicity from Golden Globe-winning series Killing Eve has led to some fans coming to have pictures taken at the eatery, with one young fan asking to eat at the table where the stars had sat.

Nevertheless, the fans of the cafe’s home cooked food - including the 200 bikers who regularly visit over the weekend - can rest assured they remain the priority.
