Lorry fire and crash cause delays on A2 near Wrotham Road

Traffic is queueing after a lorry carryng paper caught fire on the A2 and a motorbike crashed nearby.

Two lanes have been closed and there are long delays on the A2 Wrotham Road coast-bound at the A227 for the Tollgate services.

There is congestion back to Dartford Heath.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said crews were called out at around 5.45pm.

The lorry trailer contained around 15 tonnes of paper and plastic which had caught fire.

Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment and saws, before tackling the blaze using a high-pressure hose reel jet and fog spikes.

The lorry fire is now out, but there is also an accident involving a motorcycle at the Northfleet turn-off, with an ambulance on the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is not yet known.
