The 18-year-old, from Longfield, was detained on Friday, October 12, when patrolling officers spotted a suspicion car in Station Road, just before midnight.

They searched the vehicle and found 80 canisters, suspected to have nitrous oxide in them, two mobile phones and £155 cash.

The man was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug and was later released pending further inquiries.

District Inspector Nick Finnis said: "People misusing nitrous oxide, sometimes known as 'laughing gas', should be aware that because it deprives the body of oxygen, it can be fatal when taken in excess.

"This risk is likely to be greater if the gas is consumed in an enclosed space or if a substantial amount is rapidly used.

"The consumption of alcohol with nitrous oxide further increases dangers to the user.

"We would always encourage members of the public with concerns about the use of psychoactive circumstances to speak to their local Police Community Support Officer or contact Kent Police on 101."
