Officers investigating fatal 'hit and run' in Gravesend charge man with six driving offences

Officers investigating a fatal "hit and run" which killed a father have charged a 27-year-old man in connection with the death.

Rimantas Karvelis, a 56-year-old man from Lithuania, suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on October 24 last year.

He was taken to a London hospital, where he died on November 3.

Costica Ciapa, 27, has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, failing to report a collision, causing death while driving a vehicle unlicensed and causing death while driving a vehicle uninsured.

He will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 31.

Mr Karvelis’s other son, Audrius, who had travelled back from America, said previously: "I can’t believe he’s gone, my magnificent dad.

"Our life has changed irrevocably; we are shocked and deeply saddened.

"We know there are many difficult days ahead without him. He was an amazing person, a real example to others."
