An online fundraiser to raise money for fabric to make scrubs has exceeded its target.

Toni Gager and her daughter Valentina Williams, who run Love Alterations in Vigo Village near Gravesend, have set about making the clothing for frontline staff.

The family started raising £2,000 to get enough fabric so Toni and Valentina had enough to meet demand.

They have already had inquiries from Darent Valley, Medway Maritime and Maidstone hospitals.

Toni's son Alex set up a GoFundMe page which has already surpassed its target.

He said: "On of my mum's clients is a nurse from Darent Valley and she said they were low on stock and mum said to me 'maybe you could start a GoFundMe page'.

"Since we did, it went viral. We have had lots of other local businesses who want to help with the stitching and sewing.

They have been consulted on the type of material they would need and the quantity of fabric required to accommodate someone working in a hospital, such as a nurse or surgeon.

Alex estimates his family need 1,000 metres of polycotton to complete the project.

He added: "This is what mum used to do, manufacturing clothing on a high scale."

Another effort to supply staff at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford has been extended to include staff across the county.
