The store features menswear, womenswear and homewear departments, as well as a much-anticipated childrenswear section.

It has opened in a 60,0000sq ft space between House of Fraser and All Saints.

The new addition will stay open later than any other shop in the centre, closing at 9.30pm from Monday to Friday, unlike others which shut at 9pm.

The retailer - which already has seven stores in Kent - has created more than 400 jobs.

It was first thought the introduction of the Bluewater store would spell the end for nearby branches in Gravesend and Dartford, but Primark said there were no plans to shut those retailers.

The shop has launched ahead of Bluewater's 20th anniversary - which is being celebrated at the shopping centre this weekend.

Primark’s retail director for the UK & Northern Europe, Simon Gibbs said: “We’re delighted to open a new store in the Bluewater Shopping Centre, bringing amazing fashion at amazing prices to the people of Kent and surrounding areas.

"Today’s opening brings the number of Primark stores to 187 in the UK and 366 internationally, and we look forward to opening more new stores and creating more new jobs in the UK and beyond.”

The stores 'contemporary shop fit' means customers will be able to enjoy WiFi throughout the store as well as charge their phones at one of four 'recharge' seating areas.
