A body has been found in the search for a missing girl in the River Thames.
Police, Coastguard and the RNLI were scrambled to the major incident near Royal Terrace Pier in Gravesend at 1.46pm yesterday.
The girl, who is believed to be aged around nine, entered the water with a younger boy who was later rescued and taken to hospital.
Emergency crews began searching for the girl again this morning.
It is believed the boy was rescued by two men who jumped into the river to save him.
According to a spokesman for the nearby Gravesend Rowing Club, one of the men swam out using a life ring.
He managed to retrieve the boy, but lost sight of the girl before he could do anything to help her.
A police spokesman said: “Officers are continuing the search for a missing child.
“We were called by the Port of London Authority at 1.46pm on Friday to concerns for the welfare of two children who had entered the river at Royal Pier Road.
“Officers, HM Coastguard, the RNLI and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a boy had been retrieved from the water.
“He was taken to a local hospital where his condition was not described to be life-threatening.
“Kent Police's Marine Unit and H.M. Coastguard are continuing a search of the water and river bank this morning for a girl who remains missing.”
