Coronavirus Kent: Singer and TV music judge Chris Shannon entertains street in Hartley

Singer, entertainer and TV music show judge Chris Shannon took to his doorstep to entertain his neighbours in Hartley.

Chris and his fiancé Sarah Fox, a professional dancer who backs Chris on tours, decided to raise spirits during coronavirus lockdown with a 'doorstep disco'.

Chris is a judge on BBC's All Together now, in which singers face TV’s biggest judging panel ‘The 100’ - made up of singers and experts from all musical backgrounds.

But all eyes were on his talents when he ventured out to put on a show last week.

“We didn’t expect anyone really coming out but every single person brought a chair and sat outside their house singing and dancing along,” said Chris. "Everyone kept to the social distancing rules, especially myself as I have bronchiectasis, a serious lung problem, so I do take it very seriously.

"People were saying it was one of the best experiences they have had and a day they will never forget."

The video was streamed live on social media and so far more than 9,000 people have watched.

And Chris also raised over £200 for the NHS, just through donations from those on his street.

His fiancé Sarah also runs a princess party business called party4princesses, and went live to read stories to keep children entertained, using custom made costumes and green screens to make the experience authentic. Thousands of kids have now seen the video and Sarah is planning on doing more to keep the kids happy.

Originally from Lancashire, Chris moved down south after meeting the love of his life singing in Cyprus.

“All my family are In Lancashire and I miss them dearly, he said. "But I call them and FaceTime them. My mum watched my live video on social media and got upset, as she used to come on all my gigs."

Chris has been performing all over the UK and abroad for over 10 years now, and has helped raise over £100,000 for charity over the years.

But he said his career was obviously on hold for time being.

“It’s sad times we are in and I like many others have lost work or bookings," he added. "I've had over 40 gigs cancelled.

"Sarah has lost all her bookings including her touring theatre show.

"But I’d rather have nothing and be healthy than be ill and lonely in hospital, so the rules have been set in place for a reason.

"We need to still communicate with friends and family and check on each other, but keep our distance, because six months apart is a small price to pay for a long future together with good health.

"Our nan died two weeks ago and we are having a nightmare trying to sort the funeral out. But again we look at the people in the world that can’t have a funeral at all or who have no one.

"This is a time we must all unite as one and fight the biggest fight the country has ever had

"I will continue to entertain and raise a smile like I always do, because no one is alone right now."
