Youngsters and their teachers have been finding inventive ways to be positive.

Their head teacher Mathew Currie appealed to pupils to share random acts of kindness both at home and in the neighbourhood and encouraged them to make a jar which they could fill with notes of all the things they did.

The youngsters got to work and made cards and notes to send to care home residents.

Some of them also made birthday cards and a banner for national hero Captain Tom Moore's birthday.

Ward councillor Dakota Dibben said: “I think it is so important to highlight these acts of kindness and show how proud we are as a community during this difficult time.

Swingate Primary School teacher reinvents Whitney Houston classic

“I am so proud of our young people who have coped so well while being away from school and by putting others first in their community."

Teachers at Swingate Primary School in Lordswood have also been getting creative.

They penned their own version of Whitney Houston's classic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, re-working it into Gotta Stay in Your Houses.

Assistant head teacher Penny Davies said: "Although we are still open to key worker children and vulnerable children, we are trying to stay in touch with our wonderful pupils and parents to make them realise we are still here for them. We are trying to protect everyone by telling those who do not need to go out to stay at home, and make them realise that besides going into work, we are doing the same thing."
