Second half goals from Michael West and Tom Phipp earned Ebbsfleet United a second away win in four days on Tuesday night.

Those goals were enough to see off Staines Town 2-0 and solidify Liam Daish’s side in the Blue Square Bet South play-off positions.

Victory left them sitting third in the table with breathing space above the teams battling for a top five position and a chance of promotion to the Premier.

Daish was without Calum Willock for the first time this season, after he pulled out with a hamstring injury, and replacement Jacob Erskine lasted just 15 minutes before hobbling off.

Fleet, who won 2-1 at Basingstoke on Saturday, had limited chances early on, although match-winner from the weekend Ricky Shakes was a lively figure for the visitors and Giannoulis Fakinos was out to cause problems on his first start in Daish’s team.

The half ended goalless but with just three minutes of the second half gone Fakinos played in substitute West (pictured) and he placed his shot into the net to give Fleet the lead.

Fleet got their second with 19 minutes left. Ram Marwa and Shakes combined and Tom Phipp smashed home to double the advantage.
