Andy Singh to donate takings from Gravesend Borough Market stall to Grenfell Tower tragedy

A market stall owner is donating all of his takings this Saturday to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Andy Singh will be giving the proceeds from his Indian food stall at Gravesend Borough Market to those affected by the West London fire on Wednesday.

Mr Singh will be at the market from 10am and hopes to inspire other members of the Gravesend community to come together to fundraise.

He said: “My stall is an individual effort to raise money for this cause.

“I want to say to people to get involved in this. I want people in the Gravesend community to join in the future days.”

Samosas, onion bhajis, rice with peas and chickpea curries will be available with all sales – and extra donations – going to the cause.

Seventeen people have been confirmed dead in the 24-storey building fire so far but the number is expected to rise.

Hundreds more have also been made homeless.

Community volunteers have seen great generosity with food, clothing and toiletries among the items donated so far.

Mr Singh said there now needed to be a focus on raising cash for those affected.

He hopes the funds will help people afford new places to live and get out of temporary accommodation.

If the stall is a success tomorrow, Mr Singh wants to run another later this month.

Tomorrow, Gravesend holds its annual Fusion Festival, with art, music and entertainment around town. The Great Get Together also takes place in the market, marking a year since MP Jo Cox was murdered.
