Victim of Blake's nightclub attack Katie Wells speaks out after suffering broken pelvis

A victim has thanked those who supported her recovery after a nightclub attack left her with a broken pelvis.

Katie Wells was injured after a car drove into Blake's nightclub in Queen Street, Gravesend on Saturday, March 17.

The 18-year-old was one of those standing on the packed dance floor when a Suzuki Vitara smashed into the building.

She was taken to King's Hospital in London following the incident, and has praised staff at the the club for their response.

Katie, from Gravesend, said: "Following on from the incident in Blake's I just want to say a huge thank you to so many people.

"Firstly I want to say thank you to the staff at Blake's for their efforts and hard work to keep me calm and get me to safety, and also to Blake's for checking up on me.

"Secondly, to my amazing family. You’ve all been so supportive of me when I am starving at 2am, or driving to London to visit me in hospital.

"Thanks to all of my friends for being at my beck and call for a visit or phone call, and the biggest thank you to my boyfriend Billy for being my best friend and my rock through all of this.

"Thank you to everyone who has sent cards, messages, flowers, goodies, and come to visit me.

"I can’t express enough how much that has meant to me over the past few weeks.

"My recovery wouldn’t be possible without each and every one of you."

Katie is making a speedy recovery, but is still unable to walk without crutches.

Previously, senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector David Chewter from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate also thanked staff for their response.

He said: "I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the security staff at the nightclub as well as those members of the public who helped in the initial moments after the collision.

"Many people were injured as a result of the incident but none of their injuries are described as life-threatening or life-changing."

Mohammed Abdul, 21, of McMillan Street, London, has been charged with attempted murder.

Abdul was remanded in custody until Monday, April 16, when he will appear at Maidstone Crown Court.
