Gravesend councillor Steve Thompson demands end to anti-social behaviour outside Esso Garage

A councillor is demanding police action to rid residents of restless nights after complaining about months of rowdy gatherings outside a petrol station.

Posting video footage from another night of noisy disturbance which spilled into the early hours, Gravesend Cllr Steve Thompson asks when police will enforce the law and give residents peace.

It follows what appears to be at least 10 people congregating and yelling outside Esso Garage in Milton Road, Gravesend.

The Labour Party member complains that: 'Despite months of reporting this to you and GBC [Gravesham Borough Council] making orders to give you powers these problems continue. When will you enforce the law here and give residents peace?'

Kent Police responded on Twitter to say the Gravesham Community Safety Unit is working with partner agencies, and local businesses, to address anti-social behaviour in the Milton Road area, close to the junction with Bentley Street.

It said three people had reported anti-social levels of noise between 2.15am and around 2.50am today.

Patrols were sent to the area, but those responsible had already left, the force said.

A spokesman added: "Officers fully appreciate the frustration felt by residents when incidents of excess noise, particularly late at night, take place and they are continuing to speak with residents to listen to their concerns.

"Work to find a permanent, and proportionate, solution is ongoing and officers will use the full scope of powers available to them.

Cllr Thompson thanked police for the response, but added: "This is not an isolated incident. The District Commander is well aware - we need preventative measures - a higher visibility."

Kent Police said initial enquiries were carried out at the location, including a discussion with potential witnesses, and anyone with additional information is asked to get in touch by visiting the website or by calling 101.
