Gravesend: Police appeal for information after woman mugged in underpass

A 71-year-old woman was left with back and head injuries after being mugged in an underpass by a teenager.

The incident happened in the tunnel linking Raphael Road and Prospect Grove in Gravesend.

The pensioner was walking back from a bus stop in Milton Road pulling her shopping trolley when she was shoved up against a wall by the youth.

Her purse, containing about £60, a debit card, passport and bus pass were stolen.

Speaking to KentOnline's sister paper the Gravesend Messenger, her son, who did not want to be identified, said his mother was traumatised by the ordeal.

He added he had made repeated requests to the council for better lighting in the area, which has become a hot-spot for crime.

It happened between 4.49pm and 4.51pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for police said: "Officers attended the area. Inquires into the incident are ongoing and no arrests have yet been made.

"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Kent Police on 01474 366149 quoting reference number XY/64098/17."
